Does Booking Through a Travel Advisor Cost You More?
This is the question I get asked the most, usually with a slightly suspicious tone, like there has to be a catch somewhere. So let’s clear it up for good, because it’s the one thing standing between you and having someone in your corner — for free.
Short Answer: No.
Cruise lines and most tour operators set one public price for a given sailing or trip, and that price is identical whether you book it directly on their site or through me. I’m not marking anything up — I’m contractually not allowed to. My fee comes out of the supplier’s own marketing budget for bringing them a guest who shows up prepared and taken care of, the same way a hotel pays a booking site a cut. You’ll never see that fee on your invoice, because it isn’t one — it’s already baked into the price either way. So you’re not really choosing between “cheaper” and “more expensive.” You’re choosing between doing it alone or having me do it with you, for the exact same price.
Everything I’m already doing behind the scenes
What You Get, At No Extra Cost
Access to promotions and perks you won’t find on your own — suppliers regularly hand advisors exclusive incentives, extra onboard credit, cabin upgrades, and amenities that never make it to the public booking page. Someone who actually reads the fine print so you don’t have to: cancellation windows, final payment deadlines, what’s included and what’s quietly not. And a real person to call, not a queue, when a flight gets cancelled or a sailing gets rescheduled and you need it fixed today, not eventually.
The upgrade you didn’t know to ask for
Where I Can Actually Save You Money
I watch pricing patterns across dozens of bookings, not just yours, so I know which sailings tend to see fare drops, which promotions stack, and when it’s worth waiting a few weeks versus locking in today. That’s not a guess — it’s pattern recognition you don’t get booking solo on a random Tuesday night.
The one moment I’ll tell you to book it yourself
The One Honest Exception
There are occasional situations — last-minute deals, certain loyalty bookings — where going direct edges out slightly. A good advisor tells you that instead of talking you into a booking that isn’t actually the best move for you. That’s part of the job too, and it’s exactly why you can trust me on everything else.
Bottom Line
You’re not paying extra to have someone in your corner. You’re just deciding whether to plan this trip alone or hand the details to someone who does this full-time, knows the industry from the inside, and actually answers when something goes wrong. I treat every trip I book like it’s my own family’s, because most weeks, it practically is.
If you’ve been putting off reaching out because you assumed it would cost more, that’s the myth I most want to clear up. It won’t cost you a thing — and it might just save your trip.
